+  There are TWO parts to LAStools. One part is OPEN source (LGPL 2.1). The
+  other part is CLOSED source and requires licensing for most commercial
+  or government use. If you're unsure please email 'martin@rapidlasso.com'
+  before using LAStools. For education and evaluation purposes you can use
+  and test LAStools as much as you need to ... (-:
+
+  Personal note: Although the open source parts of LAStools are licensed
+  standard LGPL 2.1, the author would be unhappy should this software be
+  used at two US Nuclear Weapons Labs, namely Lawrence Livermore National
+  Laboratory (LLNL) and Sandia National Laboratories. However, the author
+  would like to hear from you in case you have enough pull to resolve the
+  issues that are the reason for this note (so this note can be removed).
+

+  This part of LAStools is open-source LGPL (see COPYING.txt). If want to
+  purchase a different licensing model for any particular use (commercial
